UT Tyler, Winona ISD Partnership Generates Significant Improvement on Standardized Testing Outcomes
Winona ISD has a history of chronic underperformance as measured by the state accountability system, and it is currently Improvement Required. However, thanks to its partnership with the University of Texas, it seems that things are looking up for the 3A school just outside of Tyler. Recent data comparing the schools 2019 STAAR test results to its 2018 STAAR test results shows that the school has seen growth by as much as 84-88% overall. The school has even seen growth by as much as 40 percentage points in areas such as 3rd grade math. Superintendent Mize, principal Jason Caldwell, and the University of Texas at Tyler have all done an amazing job of making the partnership work for the benefit of the children attending school in Winona. UT Tyler and Winona ISD have been commended for creating a successful learning experience for the children through this partnership opportunity.
